I'm searching for a good article for this week. Here are some possiblities. Any suggestions?

  1. What Could You Live Without?
This term we are studying Economics, and one of the topics of discussion was opportunity cost. Opportunity cost is the value of a good or service in terms of what had to be sacrificed in order to obtain that item. For our class the item or entity that was in limited supply was time. We all drew a Venn Diagram outlining how are time is divided during any given day. In the end we were told to decide which activity we would most readily give up in order to spend more time on “valued” activity. Upon our final decision (for the majority of the class, it was sacrificing school hours in order to prolong hours spent sleeping) we realized that with each sacrifice and benefit there was a subsequent consequence. This was our example of opportunity cost.
After reading this article, I realized that this was somewhat of a reverse opportunity cost. This eager 14-year old girl found that sacrificing the luxury of a huge house in order to aid those in need would not result in any consequence but instead an inspiring deed. As the Salwens said we all have out Half, something that we can give up and it doesn’t always result in a negative.
In today’s economy and in this recession I think it’s about time America, the government and its citizens alike, take a good look at what their half is, and what they can cut for the greater good.
